Happy Turkey Day!

Well internet friends it would appear Thanksgiving has come this year and it was pretty great. This year we had it at our house seeing as how we have a new one. I am thankful for many things this year. I am thankful for my loving family and my home. I am happy that all the adults I know have jobs in this bad economy, the teenagers though not so much. I am thankful that I got a new laptop on black Friday and didn't have to fight through a massive group of crazies to get it. I had a big dinner on Thanksgiving that I am now regretting. We had turkey, of course, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, noodles, beef stew type stuff, pie, cake, muffins, rolls, and corn. I was all very good. My sister made the noodles and she got tired of cutting them, so she used cookie cutters. The cookie cutters then gave the noodles various alphabet shapes. So we could write messages with our noodles. Last but not least, I am thankful for all of my wonderful friends. I know I don't always show it, but I do appreciate you guys.

Convention!

Today me and my youth group are heading up to Indianapolis for the state youth convention. It should be really fun. The convention is basically like three days of church along with activities. I don't know what all we are going to though, but it should be really fun. I think one of the things we are doing is some type of community service project. I also think we are going to Circle Center Mall, which sounds fun. I would like to stay in Indianapolis for a little while longer, but some of our people need to be back in time to a swing concert performance at the church. It should still be fun, though. We are going to b e coming back on Sunday. We are thinking of having a prank war, but I am not sure if we are actually going to be doing it or not. Either way it should be a blast.

Limerick

There once was a girl named Sue
Who had a large jar of goo
She hid from her friends
For how long it depends
And when they came she jumped and said boo

Fall Break!

So today is the last day of school before fall break! I am pretty stoked about that. In other news we are right in the middle of the fruit selling process for prom. People already seem to be going crazy over it even though it is like six months away. Tomorrow me, Aris, Morgan, and Lance might be going to Jasper. We are probably going to Game Stop and Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart should be fun, and its always fun for us Pike County people to go to Jasper and taunt them. Also the Mountain Dew slushie machine at the shell station in Oakland is broken, and I am not happy about that at all! The slushies are very good and with the machine broken I need to figure out where to find another one. I wonder if they have any in Jasper? It does not make any sense, though, because the large is cheaper than the small, so I assume that they thought that people would not pay attention and buy the small and assume that it is cheaper. Remember nothing is more fun than the toy aisle at Wal-Mart. They always have such neat plastic swords and battle axes. The only problem is that the nerf guns are in boxes and they don't let you "test" them in the store. :P
In any instance I think I will come up with another random thing to talk about. The show Adventure Time is rather bizarre. There is a new episode on tonight, but last week's episode was thoroughly evil. You see there is this character on the show thats like a vampire queen or something like that and this episode had her dad on it. That would not be strange seeing as how almost every show has stinkin vampires on it, but this vampire was particularly freaky. He was eating penguin souls. Thats right penguin souls! I am sorry, but that is pretty mean.

Movie Review

The Tom Cruise film War of the Worlds is certainly not the best of all movies about an alien invasion out there. The special effects are good, but a little bit over the top. The most sensationalistic of all the scenes would have to be the scene where they are fighting on the hill top in New Jersey and they are hitting the tripods with Abrams tanks, Apache helicopters, and F-22 fighters, and they all do nothing to them. That is a pointless scene which I made was not even close to anything they had in the book.

I have actually read the book three times and the differences between the movie and the novel are striking. The movie is actually based off of the Orson Welles radio play from the 30's. The book did not even take place in America. The book took place in Victorian Britain at the turn of the twentieth century. In the book they could actually kill the aliens with their weapons. The book is also more interesting because it has a section that focuses entirely on the narrators brother. The narrator was also not a divorced man with two children. he was a married man with no children. The only thing that was actually the same was the ending, which I will not reveal here.

Although the special effects are good, they are not enough to justify seeing this movie. Admittedly, Tom Cruise is not my favorite actor, but I don't think that this movie would be any good even if it had a completely different cast. The scene that was most similar to the book would have to be the scene in the farm house. That scene was the best scene in the movie, and the only one that truly does justice to the novel. Although there is this one bright spot, I would have to suggest avoiding this move.
